Class: The Three Sister Garden

Cooking From the Garden at Rutgers Gardens in New Brunswick, NJ.

The vegetable gardens will be full of lush growth at the beginning of summer. Learn about the Native American technique of companion planting the Three Sisters—corn, beans and squash—together in a mound. Strong corn stalks allow beans to scramble up towards the sun while squash planted at the base keeps their sisters’ roots shaded and moist. A colorful variety of beans grown in the garden will be tasted while Chef Rachel prepares a summer version of Three Sisters Soup. Come and taste how the sisters support each other in the garden and at the table. Recipes will be provided to take home. This class will take place in the garden. Please dress for the weather.
